How much will my repair cost?
Service calls are troubleshooting. We diagnose the fault, do the work that is required, and bill for the parts and the time it took. If the job is an upgrade or installation, that starts with a free estimate instead.
Should I just replace the outlet myself?
We would rather you did not. A dead outlet is usually a symptom of a loose connection somewhere on the run, and replacing the visibly failed device leaves the actual hot spot in place, hidden inside a wall. If a device has failed, the circuit it sits on should be tested.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Kincaid Electric holds a Florida Master Electrical License, number EC0000873, and carries full liability and workers compensation coverage. We have been licensed and operating in Polk County since 1973.
Do you pull permits?
When the scope of work requires a permit, yes, we pull it and we schedule the inspection. Permitted work protects you at resale and keeps your insurance valid. We will tell you upfront whether your job needs one.

What should I do if my circuit breaker keeps tripping?
Reset it once. If it trips again, stop resetting it and unplug whatever was running on that circuit, because a breaker that keeps tripping is doing its job and telling you something is wrong. Repeated resets on a genuine fault heat the breaker and the bus it sits on. Call us and describe when it trips and what is running at the time, since that is usually enough to narrow it down before we arrive.
What is a GFCI outlet, and do I need one?
A GFCI outlet compares the current going out with the current coming back and cuts power in a fraction of a second if any of it is leaking to ground, which is what happens when a person is in the path. Code requires them in kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, garages, outdoors, and near pools and sinks. Most Polk County homes built before the 1980s do not have them everywhere they now belong, so if the outlets in those areas have no test and reset buttons, they are worth adding.
Why are my lights flickering?
The harmless version is a dimmer that does not match the LED fixtures it is driving. The version worth attending to is a loose or corroded connection at the panel, the meter, or a device on the circuit, because a loose connection arcs and arcing makes heat inside a box you cannot see. Flicker that affects a whole room, or the whole house when the air handler starts, usually points at the service or the main lugs. We test under load to tell those apart rather than guessing.
What are the signs of outdated electrical wiring?
Two-prong outlets with no ground, cloth-insulated conductors, a fuse box still in service, and aluminium branch circuits from the mid-1960s to mid-1970s are the common ones in older Polk County housing. Add to those permanent extension cords, a kitchen and laundry sharing one circuit, and a panel with no space left. None of those is an emergency on its own, but together they mean the system is carrying loads it was never designed for.
